1999 Mutsu Junior Ambassador Schedule (Updated December 16, 1998)

Thursday, January 7th

9:45 A.M. Arrival at SeaTac International Airport. American Airlines Flight # 026

12:00 P.M. Sightseeing in Seattle: Space Needle, Flight Museum

5:00 P.M. Briefing and review of schedule with host families in Stevens Middle School Library.

5:30 P.M. Junior Ambassador delegation arrives in Port Angeles. Welcome reception sponsored by Japanese Club held in SMS Library.

6:00 P.M. Junior Ambassadors will leave with hosts after family pictures.Students will eat dinner and enjoy the evening with their hosts.

Delegation adults will be hosted by PIRA and Stevens Middle School for a casual welcome dinner from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Bella Italia Restaurant. Transportation for adults from SMS to the restaurant will be provided by PIRA members. After dinner, adults will be taken to their hotel for check-in. Ms. Kawashita will go home with Mr. and Mrs. Linn

Friday, January 8th

Adults will be picked up by Chuck Lisk (SMS) and Pete Northrop (PIRA) to attend Stevens Middle School for morning activities at 7:30 A.M.

7:45 A.M. Host families will drop off their students at SMS.

8:20-8:50 A.M. Junior Ambassadors and adults will introduce themselves on Stevens News Network (SNN).

8:50-9:30 A.M. Junior Ambassadors will tour the school with host partners. All students will attend regular classes (starting at 9:30 A.M.) and have lunch with their partners.

Delegation adults will tour SMS with Chuck Lisk, Diann Lavik, and John Wagner during 2nd period (9:30-10:20 A.M.). During 3rd period (10:20-11:10 A.M.) Mr. Kato and Ms. Kawashita will teach their lessons to Bret Curtis' and Pat Durr's 8th grade classes. Presentations will be videotaped so they can be viewed by other classes at a later time.

At 11:15 A.M. adult group members will go to the Port Angeles School District's Central Services Building until 11:45 A.M. From there and until 1:15 P.M. they will be at Peninsula College for a tour and lunch hosted by Mr. Wayne Rush and college president, Dr. Wally Sigmar.

12:35-1:20 P.M. Junior Ambassadors will go to the SMS library to prepare for the culture fair. Host students will attend their regular 5th period classes.

1:30-3:00 P.M. Culture Fair in the library

Mr. Casey - Art Class
Mr. Morgan-Ellis - Orchestra

3:05 P.M. School day is over. Students will meet to debrief their day and to answer any scheduling questions.

3:30 P.M. Host families will pick up students.

After school, delegation adults will have the opportunity to tour the downtown shopping areas with PIRA members (4:00-5:30 P.M.). They will be returned to their hotel for a rest before PIRA members pick them up for the evening's dinner at 6:00 P.M.

3:30-6:30 P.M. Students will have free time with their host families and friends.

6:30-8:30 P.M. Welcome dinner at SMS Cafeteria sponsored by SMS Japanese Club. This is a potluck event with food provided by host families, Japanese Club members, and PIRA. We will have entertainment provided by the SMS Orchestra from 6:40-7:00 P.M. After dinner, students can play basketball, pin soccer, musical chairs, and kickball in the gym (casual dress).

8:30 P.M. Return home with host families.

Saturday, January 9th

Adults and students will share this schedule.

7:45 A.M. Junior Ambassadors and SMS groups will meet at Port Angeles' Coho Ferry Terminal.

8:20 A.M. Board ferry and depart for Victoria, British Columbia.

9:55 A.M. Arrive in Victoria, B.C.

10:15-2:15 P.M. Together we'll all visit the Royal Provincial Museum. Independently you can visit the Parliament Buildings, the Empress Hotel, and shopping areas. Lunch is on your own in Victoria.

2:15 P.M. Meet at the pier.

3:00 P.M. Board ferry and depart for Port Angeles.

4:45 P.M. Host families will pick you up.

At 6:30 P.M. there will be an adult dinner party hosted by PIRA and other official city and school district representatives.

7:00-9:00 P.M. All student swim party at the William Shore Memorial Pool

Sunday, January 10th

Adults will be hosted for breakfast from 8:30-10:00 A.M. at the Chestnut Cottage Restaurant. They will be grouped with PIRA members for a free "host family day."

8:00 A.M.-6:00 P.M. Junior Ambassadors will have a free day with their host families and friends.

5:00-6:00 P.M. Native American beading and fry bread making at the Jamestown Tribal Center

6:00-8:00 P.M. Farewell party with gift presentations and speeches at the Jamestown Tribal Center (dress up).

8:30 P.M. Students will return home with host families to pack.

Monday, January 11th

7:30 A.M. Junior Ambassadors will meet at the Doubletree Inn with host families and adults to say goodbye.

7:45 A.M. Depart from Port Angeles.

11:00 A.M. Arrive at the airport.

1:20 P.M. Depart SeaTac for Narita.
