Junior Ambassador Schedule
January 6-10, 2000

Thursday, January 6th

9:45 A.M. Arrival at SeaTac International Airport.
American Airlines Flight #026

12:00 P.M. Sightseeing in Seattle

• Pike Place Market
• Space Needle
• Seattle Center

5:00 P.M. Review of schedule with host families in Stevens Middle School Library.

5:30 P.M. Junior Ambassador delegation arrives in Port Angeles. Welcome reception sponsored by Japanese Club held in SMS Library.

6:15 P.M. Junior Ambassadors will leave with hosts after family pictures. Students will eat dinner and enjoy the evening with their hosts.


Delegation adults will be hosted by Stevens Middle School staff (Chuck Lisk, John Wagner, Doug Hayman, Rob and Lucy Edwards) for a welcome dinner from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Cafe Garden Restaurant. Transportation for adults from SMS to the dinner will be provided by SMS staff. After dinner, adults will be taken to their hotel for check-in.



Friday, January 7th


Adults will be picked up by SMS staff and taken to Stevens Middle School by 7:45 A.M. for morning activities.


7:45 A.M.
Host families will drop off their students at SMS.

8:20-8:50 A.M. Junior Ambassadors and adults will introduce themselves on Stevens News Network (SNN).

8:50-9:30 A.M. Junior Ambassadors will tour the school with host partners during 1st period. All students will attend regular classes starting with 2nd period (9:31 A.M.) and have lunch with their host students.



Delegation adults will visit SMS classrooms during 2nd period (9:31-10:18 A.M.) with Chuck Lisk, Doug Hayman, and John Wagner to see Junior Ambassadors. During 3rd period (10:22-11:09 A.M.) Mr. Kato and Mrs. Sawada will teach their lessons to Brenda Lipe's and Lisa Riggs's 8th grade classes respectively.

A lunch will be held at the Port Angeles School District's Central Service Building (11:15-12:30 P.M.) for Mr. Takasugi, Mr. Kawani, Mr. Kato, and Ms. Torgerson. Adults will be able to attend and still be at SMS for the set up of the culture fair.


12:35-1:20 P.M.
Junior Ambassadors will go to the SMS library to prepare for the culture fair. Host students will attend their regular 5th period classes.

1:30-3:00 P.M.
Culture Fair in the library (Japanese chess, origami, abacus, calligraphy, jan-ken-pon, paper balloons, and beanbags) Three teachers will attend with their classes/clubs.

3:05 P.M. School day is over. Students will meet to debrief their day and to answer any scheduling questions.

3:30 P.M. Host families will pick up students.

Delegation adults will be returned to their hotel for a rest before SMS staff members pick them up for the evening's dinner at 5:15 P.M. They will also have the option of touring the downtown areas.

3:30-5:15 P.M. Students will have free time with their host families and friends.

5:30-8:00 P.M. Casual spaghetti welcome dinner and activities in SMS' small gym sponsored by SMS Japanese Club.

• Make friendship bracelets with Japanese Club
• Piano and song performances by Junior Ambassadors
• Kamafuse-Ondo Dance with the Mutsu Delegation

8:00 P.M.
Return home with host families.


Saturday, January 8th

Adults and students will share this schedule.

7:45 A.M. Junior Ambassadors and SMS groups will meet at Port Angeles' Coho Ferry Terminal.

8:20 A.M.
Board ferry and depart for Victoria, British Columbia.

10:00 A.M.
Arrive in Victoria, B.C.

10:15-2:15 P.M.
Together we'll all visit the British Columbia Provincial Museum. Independently, with your groups, you can visit the Empress Hotel and shopping areas. Lunch is on your own in Victoria.

2:15 P.M. Meet at the pier.

3:00 P.M. Board ferry and depart for Port Angeles.

4:45 P.M.
Host families will pick up students and spend the evening together.

Delegation adults will be hosted for dinner by PIRA members.



Sunday, January 9th

Mutsu Delegation adult members will have a 9:00 A.M. breakfast meeting with George Woodruff, Chuck Lisk, MaryAnn Unger, Rob and Lucy Edwards, and PIRA president, Tad Price.

8:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. Junior Ambassadors will have a free day with their host families and friends.

5:00 P.M. Formal farewell party with gift presentations and speeches at the Port Angeles Senior Center. We will have a traditional holiday turkey dinner and the event will be catered by Smitty's.

7:30 P.M. Students will return home with host families to pack.



Monday, January 10th

6:30 A.M.
Junior Ambassadors will meet at the Red Lion Inn with host families and adults to say goodbye.

6:45 A.M. Depart from Port Angeles.

9:30 A.M. Visit the University of Washington Bookstore

12:50 P.M. Depart SeaTac for Narita
