GIS and The International Project: Geographical Information System (GIS) is a powerful tool that allows students to organize data in terms of geographical location and to learn how to represent the data to identify and demonstrate patterns of relationship. For the purpose of the International Project we will be using the software to compare and contrast the cities and cultures of Port Angeles, WA and Mutsu City, Japan.

As GIS work progresses, students will post their work on this Web site so that others can visualize the data they have collected in a map format. These maps will visually educate individuals about the similarities and differences between the two cultures. Students will study topics such as values and beliefs, traditions, economics, governments, education, geography, recreational activities, language, history, food, art, transportation, environment.

As a result of integrating GIS into the project, student will not only learn advanced technology skills, develop great cultural understanding, but will begin to utilize a tool that will help them manage the future global challenges that they will face in their professional lives. It is with the above focus that the youth of our world can begin to unite to make our world a better place to live.
